Day 9 - Los Angeles

We woke up in Las Vegas and drove to Los Angeles. We saw the Crystal Cathedral, Union Station, the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Avilla Adobe, City Hall, the Bradbury Building, the walk of fame, and the Hollywood sign.

various snapshots from the crystal cathedral

and one from the inside of historic union station

Trying to take photos with the Hollywood sign was especially funny as we would try and snap pictures between moving cars, trying to get our depth correct to make it look like we were holding the sign, and all those other dumb things tourists do. [too bad we don't have any photos from the experience!] The last stop of the evening was Frank Lloyd Wright's "Hollyhock House." Lucky for us we were able to get right up to the house because the grounds were not yet closed for the evening due to a fundraiser going on at the House. It was an amazing space that has since been turned into a city park in LA where you can walk to the top of the hill to see an amazing sunset on a blanket with a picnic basket. We were able to take so many great pictures here, it's heartbreaking to not have them.

Then, instead of staying in Los Angeles as expected, we decided to skip Venice Beach and drive through the night to San Simeon, CA to see the Hearst Castle in the morning so we could miss the LA morning rushhour.
